Spotify has revamped its desktop experience by launching a new user interface (UI) that includes redesigned 'Your Library' and 'Now Playing' sections. This update aims to align the desktop version more closely with its iOS and Android counterparts, making it simpler for users to "explore, curate, listen to, and organize Spotify on a computer or web browser." The new UI was announced today in a blog post and a short video.
The core element of the desktop UI remains unchanged, as it continues to serve as "your central hub to browse, discover, and find recommended songs and podcasts." However, the new three-column design offers an improved Your Library and Now Playing experience, providing users with quicker and easier access to their favorite music and podcasts, as well as additional information such as tour dates, merchandise, and even transcripts.
Spotify's new desktop sections include:
- Your Library: This section now features a streamlined view of playlists, artists, albums, and podcasts, making it simpler for users to find and organize their content. The search bar has also been improved for quicker access and better results.
- Now Playing: The revamped Now Playing section offers a richer experience, displaying lyrics, cover art, and additional information about the track or podcast episode. Users can also easily access playback controls and queue management from this section.
- Explore: This section remains the central hub for discovering new music and podcasts, with personalized recommendations based on the user's listening habits.
The refreshed Spotify desktop experience aims to provide a more seamless and enjoyable experience for users across different platforms. By redesigning key sections like Your Library and Now Playing, Spotify has made it easier for users to access, discover, and manage their favorite content. The new desktop UI is available now for all users.
