Rahul Kohli Reacts to Not Landing Reed Richards Role, Praises Pedro Pascal as Perfect Choice

The star of The Haunting of Bly Manor shared his thoughts on not being chosen for the Fantastic Four's Reed Richards role, expressing admiration for Pedro Pascal: "I can't imagine anyone more suited to embody Reed."

Rahul Kohli, considered for the role of Reed Richards, also known as Mr. Fantastic, in the forthcoming reboot of Marvel's Fantastic Four, expressed that Pedro Pascal is the ideal choice for the character.

"Yes, I'm not sure I'm supposed to discuss this, but the key point is I wasn't selected, which is what matters. Yet, on brighter days, I sense the presence of Constantine," Kohli revealed to Salaam Nerds. "This sentiment resurfaces sporadically. And I have affection for every one of them. On the good days, you feel appreciated! There's a clear desire from the audience to see you. You're the individual everyone roots for, no matter what. Conversely, on gloomy days, it serves as a stark reminder that you're not the chosen one. These are the opportunities that elude you. So, it offers both sweetness and a sense of reality. It's about your self-perception."

Marvel revealed its official cast for the movie on Valentine's Day, featuring Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, also known as The Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, also known as The Thing. Following Kohli's interview, the disclosure of his almost securing the role generated widespread excitement, especially considering he had been a favored selection among the audience for the character. Kohli later used his personal Instagram to elaborate on his remarks.

"This has been exaggerated. I mentioned in a podcast, 'I didn't get it.' I never stated I was competing with Pedro Pascal or that I was a strong contender or even closely considered for the role," Kohli clarified. "It merely wasn't meant to be, and it highlighted a broader discussion about fan-casting and mental wellness. Regarding the role, Pedro stands as one of the actors I hold in high regard, an incredible individual, and I cannot envision a more fitting actor for Reed. There was never a direct competition between us. I wasn't in his league from the start. I'm thrilled for him and eagerly anticipate the film!"

Kohli has gained recognition through his performances in Mike Flanagan's Netflix series, such as The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, The Midnight Club, and the Fall of the House of Usher. He is set to appear in Flanagan's interpretation of Stephen King's "The Life of Chuck," with Tom Hiddleston portraying Chuck, a character who, following his demise, embarks on an expedition across the landscape of his existence.

There's no release date yet for The Life of Chuck. Meanwhile, the Fantastic Four is set to premiere on July 25, 2025. For more information, visit our directory of the most anticipated films scheduled for 2024 and beyond.
