Black Friday is worse in space, what with alien moms breaking through hatches to get in.

The new Star Trek movie tie-in/sequel looks as good as any other movie tie-in.

However, the press releases make it fascinating.

According to the press release sent out for the game, it will launch on “all major home consoles.” But what does that mean? When it launches in early 2013, the three home consoles will be the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii U (while the Wii will slowly be fazed out).

However, right now, the two “major” consoles are the PS3 and 360, with most publishers and developers ignoring the Wii. This psychology is important. At the time of the press release, the PR agent could have simply meant PS3, 360, and (possibly) PC. But the timing of the release caused many to wonder about the possible release on the Wii U, and what it would do to the functionality of the game.

Brian Miller, senior vice president and producer at Paramount Pictures, stated, “We are exploring right now all of our options to get on the platforms that make sense. It’s early. Good thing we have a lot of time to figure that out, and over the next few months we’ll be able to announce a few more things.”

Sure, it’s not much to let you know what consoles Star Trek will or will not hit. However, those hoping for a sequel to 2009′s film will enjoy the video-game version of the story, currently in development by Digital Extremes.
