April 24th – Ubisoft Sued, GotY Editions, & EKGaming

In this episode, Chelsy (original co-host of the WarpZone Show) joins Ben and Alex to discuss gaming news. The Nintendo 3DS firmware update adds folders and game patches. Super Mario Bros. 2 gets announced for the 3DS in August. Kirby will receive a 20th anniversary compilation on the Wii. The PlayStation Vita gets Skype. God of War: Ascension was announced. Sony unveils its competition to the Apple TV in the form of the nasne, which streams TV content to the PS3 and Vita. Everquest log-ins up 150% since going free-to-play. NPD finds that 40% of free-to-play gamers pay for premium content. John L. Beiswenger, author of Link, sues Ubisoft for copyright infringement with the Assassin’s Creed franchise, and the gamers of the Internet make themselves look like jackasses by hopping on Amazon to troll his book. Silent Hill 3 gets a film adaptation in fall. Prey 2 enters Video Game Limbo. THQ pushes Darksiders II into August for the Back-to-School-so-Dad-Is-Free-to-Play-Video-Games season. Codemasters changes its name to Codemasters Racing. Katsuhiro Harada of Tekken promises to never make characters into DLC. After Peter Molyneux joins 22 Cans, more than 1,000 applications flood the mailboxes. Facebook may see an IPO by May 17. Activision teases the next Call of Duty announcement during the NBA Playoffs on TNT, and some viral marketing points to a 2027 setting. Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning sold 410,000 units, proving that new IPs can sell well, but not from small or mid-sized publishers. Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception – Game of the Year Edition gets announced in Europe. Batman: Arkham City – Game of the Year Edition announced for this summer with “Harley Quinn’s Revenge,” but the cover is tragically bad. Activision also announces 007 Legends for Bond’s 50th birthday. Rayman Origins will get a sequel. Dota 2 (from Valve) will be free-to-play and reward VIP players. Finally, new retailer EKGaming announces its intent to share 10% of used game sales with publishers and developers, and we discuss if this will help to remove the Online Pass plague or if no difference will be made. Then, Chelsy declares the only way to fix the video game market is to give fair prices on games for what they are worth. April 17th – Capcom Downgraded by the BBB, Women in Gaming, & Goodbyes

In this final episode (on KWCR 88.1 Weber FM), we discuss our plans after graduation. Capcom gets downgraded by the BBB over the on-disc DLC. The Vita sales slow even more in Japan. Kaz Hirai introduces One Sony, One Management plan to focus on mobile, online, and gaming. Sony teases an announcement for Thursday, the 19th. Miyamoto considers how to return to The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and Alex wants Nintendo to do something new. On that note, Nintendo registers Super Mario 4, which may be debuted at this year’s E3. Xbox Live will be further monetized this holiday, according to one employee’s LinkedIn profile. Valve posts a job listing for new hardware, and before you start screaming Steam Box, Michael Abrash reveals it will be wearable computing. EA looked cool while supporting same-sex characters and relationships in gaming, and decided to start a petition to gather 75,000 digital signatures, but according to one Reddit user, many signatures have come from bots. Speaking of EA, Need for Speed should be a movie, kind of like The Fast and the Furious. Sega, Capcom, and Namco announce Project X Zone as their major cross-over title. Skyrim will receive Kinect functionality on April 23. SSX gets Tricky DLC. Halo 4 was announced for November 6.  GameStop now must put warning labels for Online Passes on their used games in California.
